  • Building Friendships

Since the start of this competition, we have never won a match but through this competition we were able to make new friends from other places and have made stronger friendships within our team. It doesn't matter if we win or lose as we all still had fun. I also hope that through this competition pre-believers will come to know God through the sharings.

  • The One Who Will Be There For Me

In the first curriculum of this Crossroad league, we have learnt that everybody would have faced one of the darkest time in their lives, be it failing your studies, or breaking up with your girlfriend. This is a story of my darkest time in my life. It was when my grandpa passed away last November.

  • Passing on the Blessings

Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.

  • God Wants To Heal You

Throughout my time as an athlete, I've seen people getting injuries during the course of their game, mostly ankle sprain in the game of basketball. Personally, I'm very thankful that not even once did I sprain my ankle or suffer any physical injuries to the extent that I had to stop playing. For those who are familiar with the bible will know that there are many instances of miracle healing in the past compared to the present where we rarely see miracle healing.

  • Planning to Win

In preparations for a basketball match, coaches and players would have a plan to compete with opponents based on their strengths and weakness. Teams plan out a game plan to achieve a certain goal which in our case, we practices set pieces, we train on our ball handling, shooting, chemistry and etc. However, in a game, unforeseen circumstances can still happen which causes the plan not to go smoothly.

  • Life Values Through Basketball

I was invited to team Kairos by my history teacher Mr Stanley Tan. Before joining the team, i was playing casual basketball in school almost every single day. However, after the many training sessions i had with team Kairos, i found out that i still had a long way to go before becoming a good basketball player.

  • My First Basketball Game

As this is my first formal basketball game in my 20 years of life, I felt rather nervous. I was also lost on court. I have made mistakes and missed 3 out of 3 shots.

  • Taming The Tongue

James 3:7-9 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.

1 Corinthians 12:12-26

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

2nd game of the CRS basketball league and perhaps one of the tougher game that we will play this tournament, it was a close game throughout the entire 40 minutes, all the way to the very last second. At the start of the game, as for every game, I set targets for myself to score as many points as I possibly can, to minimize turnovers and to defend well. 3 minutes into the game, I got my first basket and at the back of my head I was thinking: “that’s easy; all I have to do is to continue to play like this and I will rack up more points.” Minutes went by and so did the 1st quarter. I managed to force 2 turnovers but I wanted to do more, to score. But, throughout the rest of the match, all I did and could do was to just force a few more turnovers and miss a couple of shots. I ended up only with the basket I made in the 3rd minute.

As I reflect on the game, I understood that every one of us has different talents on court and that all of us have a part to play in our basketball team. If we are not the go-to guy when it comes to scoring, then we will do our best to contest every rebound. We may not be the guy that can pass the ball well setting my team mates up for an open shot, but we will set the screen for them to get the ball. Some of us may not be able to play as well as some of my teammates, but have the basketball knowledge to coach them. We may not have much chance to play in some matches, but we make sure that we cheer my team on from the bench and make sure that they have water to drink when time-out is called.

Good offence or defense doesn’t equate to winning a match. It is a combination of both that will. It doesn’t take one player to win a match, it takes the team. Don’t be disheartened if we don’t make the basket, do not play well or don’t have the chance to play much during the tournament, we are there in our team to complement each and every one of our teammates. It is no coincidence that we are all placed in our basketball team and be encouraged that we are all given this chance to compete in CRS basketball league.
